Chez Maxwell
| accountant turned farmer |
Chez graduated from Piedmont College in Demorest, GA, in Spring 2013 with an undergraduate degree in Accounting. He began accounting work while also continuing his education at Piedmont College, graduating in Winter 2016 with a Masters of Business Administration.
Chez has worked in the finance field for 9 years, while also working as lead farmer here on the farm! He is both the brains and the brawn of our operation, and works hard to keep Neah’s daydreaming feet on the ground and pushing hard toward checking off boxes on their farm goals list.
Chez’s business background gives him a solid understanding of the logistic side of farming, and provides much knowledge in the realm of supply, demand, cost, and profit. Farming is a learn as you go adventure for him, and he truly thrives doing the good work.
Neah Maxwell
| living out legacies |
Old Cotton Hill Farms was not always a farm or homestead. In fact, Neah spent her childhood running barefoot on this land, having been born right where we are! The land we tend has been in Neah’s family for many years, and has grown a number of crops from corn to cotton. We named our farm “Old Cotton Hill” because of Neah’s fond memories of her Memaw telling stories of picking cotton “from here all the way to Banks Crossing…”.
Neah left the land for a short time to attend and graduate from the University of Georgia in 2014 with an Early Childhood Education degree, but she couldn’t stay away long. She found herself right back here, teaching in the same county she was born into. Neah has taught grades 5, 2, and 1, but even after grasping a solid career, knew she had some big shoes to fill. She felt a calling to pick up where people like her memaw and her papas left off. Luckily, Chez felt that same urge and they together began their homestead in May of 2016.
All of her life Neah has wanted nothing more than to live as simple as possible, with a house full of kids and a yard full of animals. While she hasn’t quite checked off all of those boxes, she is learning to be a better cook, gardener, and animal caretaker every day.
